Lake Toba is located in North Sumatra and is one of the famous tourist attractions in Indonesia. Since the largest lake in Southeast Asia, the Lake Toba also has a history whose existence comes in Mount Merapi’s eruption hundreds or perhaps thousands of years ago.

Fairytales and folklore about the legend of Lake Toba’s source appear to be an exciting story to talk about because the background of the creation of Lake Toba is quite unique. So, not for the marginally offensive Lake Toba process of creation of this Folklore or so-called Legend.

A young guy who’s a poor orphan. He lived secluded in the northern part of Sumatra Island that’s dry. He survived by farming and fishing.

One day, he went fishing and received an odd catch fish. The fish was large and very lovely. The Color is golden. Then he removed his hat and held the fish. However, when touched by hand, the fish has been turned into a gorgeous princess. It turns out she is a fish that’s being condemned by the Gods for having violated a ban. Has been destined, if she touched his hands, she would change into a creature like what he touched. Since she had been touched by humans, also, it becomes a human.

The young man then was the daughter of a fish. The bass was the girl nodded prepared to sign.

“However, I have one request, Kakanda.” She said.

“I’m prepared to be the wife of Kakanda, as long as Kakanda promises to keep a secret that I came from A fish.”

 

“All right, Adina. I will keep it a secret. You have my word.” Said the young man.

Finally, they married and have been blessed with a funny baby boy. But when growing up, the son is always hungry. Although he already eats lots of food which goes to his mouth, he never really feels full.

One day, because it’s so hungry that he ate all of the food on the table, such as both parents’ food rations. When coming home from the fields, his dad is eager to discover an empty table that there was no food. With an angry heart, he could not control himself. He spits the forbidden words.

“Basic offspring of fish!”

He did not realize, by what he talked about, it means that he has revealed his secret. Immediately the boy tearfully moved to watch her mother and asked if it was true that he was the offspring of fish.

Upon hearing this, the mother was shocked since her husband had violated their oath earlier.

After that, the mother chose to go back to its natural form. Then suddenly, the sky turned dark, and rain dropped lightning struck then by the swift.

The father became sad and very sorry for what he has done. But rice is now porridge. He couldn’t be reunited with his wife and son that once he loved.

The former land footing that his wife and boy, suddenly, there was a spring leash. Water Is growing bigger and bigger. It was extended to the lake. The lake is known up to now as Lake Toba.
